North Georgia Apple Fritter Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 Granny Smith Apples (peeled and diced)
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Glaze Topping:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Spray a 9 x 5 loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray then place an oversized rectangle piece of parchment paper inside the loaf pan so that it hangs over the edges. (You will use the edges to lift the bread out of the pan later.)
  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, beat butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time until just blended, then add vanilla.
  • In a separate bowl whisk flour, salt, and baking powder together.
  • Add to wet ingredients and whisk until blended. Whisk in milk until mixture is smooth.
  • Next, pour half the mixture into the loaf pan. Add half of the brown sugar mixture then top with half of the apples, gently pressing apples into batter.
  • Add the remaining batter into the loaf pan and spread with a spatula.
  • Top with remaining apples, remaining brown sugar mixture, and chopped walnuts (if desired).
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Glaze Topping:

  • Whisk powdered sugar and milk together in a small bowl.
  • Let bread cool for 15 minutes on a baking rack. Grab the edges of the parchment paper to easily remove the loaf out of the pan.

Drizzle with glaze….and enjoy warm!
